Our immune systems are critical to our survival, facilitating healing from injuries and helping us to overcome infections. There are many layers and dimensions to the immune system! Like any other body system, it can be tipped into states of excess or deficiency. Immune system dysregulation emerges when constitutional or genetic/epigenetic patterns are activated, from the pressure of external conditions, or from chronic infections. The complex influence the immune system can have on our bodies compels herbalists to be particularly thoughtful in how we develop therapeutics. Understanding the pathophysiology of both acute and chronic illness, the mechanisms of action through which herbal medicines produce effects on our bodies, as well as the multifaceted structures and functions of the immune system are all necessary in developing a holistic herbal approach to immune system support. In this intensive we will cover immune system materia medica with clinical differentials and contraindications, provide a non-prescriptive, non-judgemental whole person perspective on preventative health, and discuss some specific conditions where holistic herbal strategies really shine.

About the trainers

Taylore is a community herbalist and botanist with a passionate interest in the intersection of conservation, agriculture, and community health. She believes that actively caring for the land, expanding wild plant populations, and developing an intimate understanding of local ecology are all critical aspects of having a plant medicine practice. She brings a holistic health perspective that honors the subtle forces extant in the living world and also accepts the validity of hard science. Her approach to herbal medicine has been deeply influenced by her experience working as a field botanist, on small organic farms, in free clinics, and mutual aid projects throughout the western states.
