The nervous system connects every organ in our bodies. Through supporting our nervous systems with herbal medicine, we can improve our mental health, immune systems, digestion, and more. In this intensive, we will dive into tonic plants for the nervous system. We will look at holistic approaches to depression, anxiety, sleep, and more. We will explore polyvagal theory and the ways that plants can invite us out of fight, flight and freeze survival states and into a more present and grounded experience in our bodies. Expect a combination of materia medica (deep dives into specific plants), physiology and pathophysiology, hands-on activities, and case studies. The framework of this intensive is neurodiversity positive and grounded in disability justice. We believe that herbal medicine, lifestyle shifts, and pharmaceuticals can all be a part of holistic care and we will touch on herb-drug interactions for the plants we will study.

Jean and Taylore bring a combined 30 years of experience in clinical practice with a focus on trauma informed, harm reductionist, and client centered care.
Appropriate for both beginners and herbalists with foundational training.

About the Trainers

Picture
Jean Madrone Lynch-Thomason (SEP, RH) (they/he) is a clinical herbalist, Somatic Experiencing practitioner, abortion doula, and parent whose practice centers disability justice and queer liberation. Jean brings 15 years of clinical practice in herbal medicine, much of that in a low barrier, high volume clinic serving clients from many walks of life. They have been practicing Somatic Experiencing and developmental touch work since 2015. In their practice, they combine herbal medicine, somatic therapy, healing touch, and nutrition to offer individualized and effective care for folks looking for support with stress management, emotional well-being, healing from trauma, chronic illness, autoimmune disease, and much more.  They really, really love the mountains and waters of the northwest and the Appalachians.

Picture
Taylore is a community herbalist and botanist with a passionate interest in the intersection of conservation, agriculture, and community health. She believes that actively caring for the land, expanding wild plant populations, and developing an intimate understanding of local ecology are all critical aspects of having a plant medicine practice. She brings a holistic health perspective that honors the subtle forces extant in the living world and also accepts the validity of hard science. Her approach to herbal medicine has been deeply influenced by her experience working as a field botanist, on small organic farms, in free clinics, and mutual aid projects throughout the western states.
