My Approach
I practice holistic clinical herbalism and somatic experiencing in Olympia, Washington, territory of the Squaxin and Nisqually peoples. I grew up deeply influenced by the woods, mountains, and plantain-filled parking lots of Tennessee and North Carolina, and part of my heart will aways be there. In 2006 I moved to the Northwest and fell in love with the magic and plants of this place.
My herbal training includes apprenticeships and studies with Corinne Boyer here in the Northwest, studying at the Appalachian Center for Natural Health with Phyllis D. Light, and clinical apprenticeship with CoreyPine Shane of the Blue Ridge School of Herbal Medicine, as well as a host of eclectic influences and teachers across the west coast and southern states. I completed Somatic Experiencing trauma resolution therapy training in October of 2017 and continue ongoing training in developmental and complex trauma. I am forever in gratitude to the plants, my first teachers, as well as each of the clients who have chosen to share part of their journeys with me.
Focuses of my practice and teaching include supporting recovery from trauma, particularly developmental and complex trauma, and healing for emotional and mental health. I love working with plants during pregnancy and birth, as well as working with plants to support those experiencing pregnancy loss and termination. I especially love working with parents, children, elders and babies. I am comfortable and honored to work with folks who are receiving palliative care and who are at the end of life. While I enjoy provide care to folks from many walks of life, my practice is rooted in serving queer and trans communities. My practice is informed by co-founding and working at a low barrier sliding scale herbal clinic- the Olympia Community Herbal Clinic- from 2008-2015, which specifically intended to serve communities with institutionalized barriers to healthcare access. It is also informed by the medicine in living with physical disability.
My background includes magical practice, clinical western herbalism, harm reduction, nutrition, and energetic medicine. My ancestors are primarily from Ireland, Scotland, and England, and many of the lineages that I practice and teach are derived from western European traditions. My intention is to honor these ancestral lineages while deconstructing white supremacy and supporting decolonization in my work. I believe that our physical, emotional, and spiritual healing is intertwined with the health of the earth and with collective liberation. My practice is an offering in service to that liberation and to the wild places in our world and ourselves.
