Clinical Practicum 2022
Open to participants of all years of the community herbalist clinical skills program. This is an opportunity to put the skills that you have learned into practice, supporting clients (often with complex health needs) in a supervised and supported environment. Whether you already have experience seeing clients or conducting intakes is new for you, this is an opportunity to grow your skills in intake, assessment, formulation, specific indications of herbs, nutrition, and supplementation, applied harm reduction, herb/drug interactions, and trauma informed care.
Participants will
40 class and client hours + 10 hours of homework = 50 hours total
For 6 weeks, July 3rd through August 13th, students will meet on Fridays from 9am to 12 (9am-1pm on July 3rd) as well as 3 hours with clients and their intake groups during the week. Plan on an additional 2 hours of homework per week creating care plans or researching conditions. herb/drug interactions, etc.
Option to see clients in person or virtually. You can complete the entire practicum virtually or in person.
$450 (Some sliding scale spots available, prioritized for BIPOC)
If you are attending and seeing clients virtually, you will need: A computer with microphone and video, high speed internet, and a confidential space to be when you meet with clients virtually, with no risk of being overheard or distractions.
If you are attending in person, you will need to show proof of covid vaccination and N95 masks.
Participants will
- Observe 3 client intakes conducted by Jean Madrone Lynch-Thomason (recorded or live)
- As part of a small group, conduct supervised intakes with new clients (5 total, 1 per week)
- Have supervision and support creating care plans and formulating for clients
- Participate in clinical round tables where your clients/formulas/care plans are presented and benefit from hearing other groups' cases.
